DR. UDAY DEVGAN JOINS EXSIGHT VENTURES
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Uday Devgan has joined the ExSight Ventures team as an advisor. Professor Uday Devgan, M.D. is a renowned Los Angeles cataract surgeon, recognized for teaching at UCLA, and author of the widely followed CataractCoach.com TM. Dr. Devgan’s YouTube channel has over 68,000 subscribers and 2,134 posts. Dr. Devgan will complement our anterior segment expertise and provide a valuable resource to both the ExSight Ventures team and our portfolio companies.
ExSight Ventures co-founder Dr. Rahhal has worked and taught with Dr. Devgan for many years. Uday and Firas are passionate about teaching ocular surgery to the next generation of ophthalmologists. Dr. Devgan introduced ExSight to one of our first portfolio companies, LensGen, where he was an early advisor and investor. We have often consulted Uday informally over the years. Recently, we have collaborated on ExSight portfolio company, Horizon Surgical. Dr. Devgan joined our most recent fund as an investor and we are fortunate to add his expertise to the team in this formal capacity.
He is in private practice, specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, at Devgan Eye Surgery in Los Angeles and a full partner at Specialty Surgical Center in Beverly Hills, California. Patients from all over the USA (and from other countries) fly to Los Angeles for their cataract surgery with Dr. Devgan. A leading eye surgery journal deemed Uday Devgan MD as 1 of the top 25 leaders in ophthalmology of the last 25 years. He has been honored as 1 of the World’s Top 100 influential leaders by The Ophthalmologist.
Dr. Devgan’s leadership has led to him being named one of the top key opinion leaders in ophthalmology and he has taught ocular surgery in more than 60 countries to tens of thousands of fellow ophthalmologists. Dr. Devgan runs CataractCoach.com which has 2,000 teaching videos/articles and boasts 68,000 subscribers with more than 30 million views. He also developed an entire curriculum series, a free cataract surgery book, and now the top podcast in ophthalmology. He writes regular columns in multiple ophthalmic journals. His Back to Basics monthly feature in the journal Ocular Surgery News about the fundamentals of ophthalmic surgery has been distributed to 80,000 ophthalmologists worldwide for over 18 years.
Uday’s many accomplishments will benefit our existing portfolio companies. The addition comes at a crucial time as we seek to expand our portfolio of groundbreaking and innovative ophthalmic companies. His insights will be invaluable in identifying and nurturing startups pushing the boundaries of what's possible in vision care.
